1. Click on the little grey dot to the left of the user in the notify list. It will become a solid icon. You can have tasks assigned to multiple users. The star is an 'unread' flag associated with each user.
2. At the moment there is no versioning of the software, but I'm working on setting up just that so that people can download a zipped bundle instead of pulling from git. All you can do is 'git pull' to ensure you have the current version, but because git can be forked in all sorts of ways there can never be such a thing as a 'version'.
